Forums

Fashion Week Zanzibar’s Fashion Forums will be an opportunity for the fashion community and the public to hear from Zanzibar’s leading designers. Each designer will present a 50 minute lecture on their work and subjects relating to the fashion industry, followed by a question and answer session.
Venue will be confirmed at later date.

Films

After session is dedicated to fashion films and documentaries. Selected films will be shown. Venue will be confirmed at later date.

Community Involvement

We believe in nurturing budding creativity and in involving the local community in major events. Zanzibar Fashion Week will be holding a school competition, involving youth in the festival and offering an amazing opportunity for blossoming young fashion designers to have their work shown on a major level.

Local schools will participate in the competition, encouraging students to submit their best designs to the Zanzibar Fashion Week Team.

The team will select the three best designs of the competition and display them publicly at the Art Gallery. The winning design will be made into a dress and will walk the catwalk on the second day of Zanzibar Fashion Week.

The winning school will also have the opportunity to meet Zanzibar’s leading fashion designers up close and personal – a half-day special visit will be arranged with the school and Zanzibar’s top designers, teaching kids about the world of design and encouraging them to follow their creativity.

Awards

Zanzibar Fashion Week will be awarding fabulous prizes for our designers, student participants, and guests! The awards given out will be:
Best Fashion Designer of Zanzibar Fashion Week
Best Fashion Design – Student Design Competition
Lifetime Achievement Award
Best female model
Best male model

In addition to these awards, each night will have a special Most Style Man and Most Stylish Woman award given out in our audience!

Merchants

Merchants and community groups will be able to set up community booths at the Mbweni Ruins garden fashion show nightly. Booths will be open from 5p.m. until the fashion show. The fee to set up a booth is only 100,000 Tsh per evening.

Calendar 2014

All the designers and models involved in Fashion Week Zanzibar will grace the pages of a special edition calendar for 2014. The calendar will be published in late 2013 as a promotional tool for Fashion Week Zanzibar and Swahili style and fashion in general.
