CHILDREN'S ART EXHIBITION AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

We believe in nurturing budding creativity and in involving the local community in major events. Zanzibar Fashion Week will be holding a school competition involving seven schools from Stone Town and Rural Zanzibar. The schools participating will be as follows:
Foradhani school (government school)
Tumekuja school (government school)
Darajani school (government school)
Kiponda school (government school)
Zanzibar Junior Academy (private school)
SOS School (private school)
Feza School (private school)

This year's theme is 'Modern Hijab' and schools will be given an art project so that children can make sketches, water colour paintings and illustrations on the above theme. Papers, water colour paints and pencils will be provided which will involve children in the Fashion Week Zanzibar. This will provide an unique opportunity to encourage blossoming young fashion designers to have their work displayed on a high profile platform.

There will be 20 to 30 chosen designs with the top three receiving pride of place, displayed in Mtoni Palace . The designs will be displayed during the show for Fashion Week Zanzibar.

The illustrations will be for sale during the exhibition with the soul intention for all proceeds from the sale to be donated to in materials to the winning schools. Books, Stationary, Dictionaries and many other items will be bought and delivered to the schools.

The winning three designs will be tailored into dresses/Hijab's and will be worn down the catwalk on the second day of Zanzibar Fashion Week. The three students will also be introduced on the last day of the show and celebrated as the designers. They will be offered a place to train with some of the fashion designers. The three outfits will be also be sold and the profit will also be given back to the school in materials to encourage the students creativity.

The winning school will also have the opportunity to meet Zanzibar's leading fashion designers up close and personal – a half-day special visit will be arranged with the school and Zanzibar's top designers, teaching children about the world of design and encouraging them to follow their dreams.
